Maryam Henson
Associate Vice President, Central Initiatives

maryam hensonMaryam Henson, Associate Vice President for Central Initiatives, oversees development for cross-university initiatives and is responsible for growing investment in, and philanthropic support for, presidential priorities. She leads a team of professionals across multiple functions including corporate and foundation relations, marketing communications, donor relations, family philanthropy, athletics, libraries, academic innovation, student experience, scholarships, and Hillel. Previously, Maryam served as assistant vice president for corporate and foundation relations, managing partnerships with institutional donors in support of the university's mission to build a superior learning environment and to conduct groundbreaking research to advance innovation. Maryam came to GW after 11 years at Georgetown University where she was Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and served in a leadership role in strategic planning for the Advancement office. Previously, she was Executive Director in the Office of Fellowships, Awards and Research at Georgetown, where she managed applications to prestigious fellowships. Maryam has served on the board of the Network of Academic Corporate Relations Officers and previously chaired the National Capital Area CFR Directors Networking Group. She has a bachelor’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University, a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, and is a member of the bar of the State of Maryland. An avid fan of the outdoors, she enjoys hiking, running, swimming, and exploring the many beautiful parks around the DMV.

Susan Boerstling
Director, Foundation Relations

Susan Boerstling Susan Boerstling, Director of Foundation Relations, spearheads foundation engagement strategy for the university. She is the liaison to the Milken Institute School of Public Health, Graduate School of Education and Human Development, School of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Nursing, Law School, Graduate School of Political Management, College of Professional Studies, and the Global Women’s Institute. Susan brings 20 years of development experience to her role, having worked most recently for the Communications Consortium Media Center, Georgetown University, and United Way of Massachusetts Bay. Susan is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston College with an A.B. in Communication. She is originally from Maine and seldom passes up the opportunity to enjoy a lobster roll.

Dorota Amin
Director, Corporate Relations

Dorota Amin Dorota Amin, Director of Corporate Relations, plans corporate engagement strategy for the university. In addition, she is directly involved in building corporate partnerships for the Milken Institute School of Public Health, School of Business, Elliott School of International Affairs, and the School of Nursing. Dorota has over 11 years of nonprofit management and fundraising experience. She is a proud graduate of a Master in Nonprofit Management program at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Stephanie Aboukasm
Assistant Director, Corporate Relations

Stephanie AboukasmStephanie Aboukasm, Assistant Director of Corporate Relations, works on corporate engagement with the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, Global Women’s Institute, and School of Business (GWSB) to secure funding for research, events, and programs. Additionally, she handles corporate sponsorship for events and programs across all schools, units, and initiatives. Prior to joining GW, Stephanie worked in corporate and foundation relations at The Kennedy Center, and held positions in marketing and public relations for Classical Movements and Washington Performing Arts. She holds dual B.M.A. / B.A. degrees in Vocal Performance and Communication Studies from the University of Michigan and is a current M.B.A. candidate within the GW School of Business. Stephanie sings with the 18th Street Singers, a community choir in D.C.

Skye Landgraf
Assistant Director, Foundation Relations

Skye Landgraf Skye Landgraf, Assistant Director of Foundation Relations, joined GW’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations in 2018. She is the foundation relations liaison to the School of Nursing, Libraries and Academic Innovation, and the Global Women’s Institute. Additionally, Skye facilitates the expansion of a robust foundation relations giving program across all schools and units at the university. Skye is an experienced fundraiser with a diverse background of work with both arts non-profits and higher education. Most recently, Skye worked as the development director for Theater J, where she oversaw all aspects of the theater’s fundraising efforts from prospect research to stewardship for both individuals and foundations. Before moving to D.C, she worked as an event coordinator and young alumni outreach officer with the alumni and family relations unit at Hampshire College in Massachusetts. When not at work, Skye can be found writing plays and tinkering with her vintage stereo.

Zachary Knowles
Associate Director, Institutional Giving
School of Medicine and Health Sciences

Zachary KnowlesZach Knowles, Associate Director of Institutional Giving for the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), works with SMHS faculty members to identify and conduct outreach to corporate and foundation prospects, and develop and submit proposals. Before joining GW, Zack worked in the dean’s office of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. He holds an M.A. in International Education from GW’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development and a B.A. in International Studies from American University. A Maryland native, Zack is a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles. If he looks familiar, it’s probably because you saw him as a contestant on a June 2012 episode of Jeopardy.

Katie O'Connell
Administrative Associate, Corporate and Foundation Relations and Family Philanthropy

Katie O'ConnellKatie O'Connell, Administrative Associate of Corporate and Foundation Relations and Family Philanthropy, works with the Central Initiatives team to aid in administrative work and scheduling. Katie is originally from the great city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is a proud alumna of the George Washington University, having graduated in May 2018 with a B.A. in International Affairs and Political Science. When not at work, Katie can be found playing soccer at Long Bridge Park or exploring new cafes and restaurants in D.C.
