FY25 The Warren Alpert Foundation—Distinguished Scholar Fellowship

Grant Amount: $200,000 annually for two years to cover salary, lab costs, and related expenses. 

Summary: Projects must be in the field of neurosciences. These awards are given as a transitional post-doctoral award for recipients to enable their advance to a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor level or higher and/or to assist in the development of a laboratory program that would lead to independent funding. Scholars will be chosen on the basis of the success in their prior post-doctoral work and other research as well as in the importance and creativity of their proposed future research. 

Eligibility: The nominated candidate must have an MD or PhD degree (or both) and have completed a minimum of three years of a post-doctoral fellowship by July 1, 2025 in the field of neurosciences and hold a post-doctoral research position at a United States medical school, research institute or academic hospital.

Required Materials for GW’s Selection Committee: GW may nominate one candidate for this limited submission opportunity. Candidates must be nominated by the dean of the medical school. Please visit OVPR INFOREADY to submit the following materials by September 20, 2024 @ 1:00pm: 

  • Brief summary of program project (2 page maximum, 10 pt. font minimum) including   

  • importance of the project,   

  • Methods, and  

  • likely presentation results  

  • NIH Style Biographical sketch (5 page maximum)  

  • 1/2 page on the background of the applicant and the special characteristics that the applicant has for implementing the project and career plan. 

At the time of application submission to the Foundation, the candidate must have secured three letters of recommendation.  

Timeline:

  • September 20, 2024 @ 1:00pm: Internal submissions due to OVPR INFOREADY  

  • Late September 2024: GW’s selected applicant(s) notified that they may proceed  

  • November 1, 2024: Foundation Fellowship Application Deadline  

  • March 2025: Awards Announced by the Foundation
